Reddit Marketing Starts with the Right Community
A practical Reddit research workflow for founders. Find relevant communities, read their rules and prepare a useful first contribution.

How do you find relevant subreddits?
Start with the problem your product solves and the people who experience it. Search for those topics, then read the discussions in each candidate community. A subreddit name alone gives you little evidence that your customers use it.
Our finder suggests communities from a curated directory and shows the matching topics. Use it to make a shortlist. If your niche is absent, search Reddit directly or ask r/findareddit for suggestions.
What should you check before posting?
Open the current community rules and read recent discussions. Look for the kinds of questions people ask, how they respond to product mentions and whether promotional posts belong in a dedicated thread.
- Save the community URL and the date you checked its rules.
- Write down one question you can answer from direct experience.
- Look for restrictions on links, promotion, account age and post format.
- If a rule is unclear, use the community's stated contact process before posting.
What makes a useful contribution?
Answer the question in the thread. Explain what you tried, what happened and which conditions could change the result. When your product is relevant, disclose your connection and keep the useful part of the answer readable without following a link.
Paste your draft and the community's rules into our post checker for a second look. The check can flag links and promotional phrases. Context and moderator decisions still require human judgment.
How should you measure the work?
Keep a small record of helpful replies, questions people ask back, permission-based visits and resulting product actions. A large community can produce little useful response; a small one can reveal the exact problem your next tool should solve.
Use campaign tags only when a community permits a link. Separate a post view, a website visit and a completed tool run in your reporting. Each tells you something different.
